USMCA EFFECTIVE AS OF TODAY

“In regards to USMCA effective as of today, and after 26 years of governing trade between the countries of the region, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) gives way to the Agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA). This new agreement was an update to NAFTA and included new chapters on labor, environmental and energy matters, among others.

“The USMCA comes into force amid the economic impact of the pandemic in the signatory countries. This July 1, the new trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada, the so-called USMCA, comes into force, amid great expectations for the boost it could give to the economies of these three countries. However, some believe that its benefits will not be seen in the short term, especially due to the economic situation of the nations that make up the agreement due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
